Understanding your energy costs

How we calculate your monthly charges

Our electric rate consists of two charges on your monthly bill: Wholesale Power Cost and Cherokee County Electric residential service, which includes a monthly minimum fee. In addition, members who live inside the city limits that use electricity provided by Cherokee County EC may be charged a franchise fee by the city. Below is a sample bill of residential service. (Note: Commercial and Demand Meter accounts bill will be similar however it is calculate at different rates.)

Power Cost Recovery Factor (PCRF)
When the power cost is greater than the amount recovered through the Energy Charge established in 2007, a power cost recovery factor (PCRF) is added to each member's bill.  The PCRF is multiplied by the number of kWh's each member uses that month and allows CCECA to recover the total charge for the power cost.
